Festo

In order to familiarize our students with the various technologies used in Industrial Automation, Muthayammal Engineering College, Rasipuram (Autonomous) with Festo, a leading German manufacturer of pneumatic components and electric drives used for automation, organized an exhibition on Low Cost Automation. For this purpose, a mobile van called ‘Festo Expotainer’ which is a custom built fully equipped exhibition vehicle built on Volvo Chassis having a wide range of Static displays of latest products along with Dynamic Application displays, was brought to our campus.
It was an interactive and informative exhibition where Festo Engineer, Mr. Raja explained the components and their applications. More than 200 engineering students (mostly 2nd and 3rd year) visited the exhibition in small batches of 12 students each.
In this exhibition students were introduced to the concepts of pneumatic control.
The equipment showcase includes Process valves, Ultra compact maintenance unit, Valve terminals and CPX, Miniature drives, Actuator handling technology, Stepper and Servo motor applications, Systematic gripping, Tubing’s, Part sensing and vision apparatus, and complete range of push-in fittings. It also showcases Mechatronic systems designed for various industrial applications such as purely pneumatic pick and place loop mechanism. Videos were also played on R&D projects undertaken by Festo in recent years.
The engineer from Festo also mentioned that he was impressed with the students’ eagerness to learn about these latest technologies. Overall it was a good learning experience for the students as well as faculty members and many students plan to use the technology for making better projects.
