Bio Technology


The Department of Biotechnology is established in the year 2018-19 in B.Tech. Biotechnology affiliated to Anna University, Chennai with an intake of 60 students.. Biotechnology seeks to study Biology from a technological perspective. Biotechnology harnesses cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve our lives and the health of our planet. Modern biotechnology provides breakthrough products and technologies to combat debilitating rare diseases, reduce our environmental footprint, feed the hungry, use less and cleaner energy, and have safer, cleaner and more efficient industrial manufacturing processes.

Biotechnology is a multi-disciplinary course and utilizes concepts of Biology and Technology to develop trained professionals for the field of Biotechnology. The syllabus is designed to expose the students to recent exciting developments in the area of Biotechnology and their application in industry, agriculture and medicine.


To transform the department into a world class resource centre in the biotechnology field and to develop technically sound biotechnologist who serves the need of industry as well as society.

1. Engineering Knowledge : An ability to apply the knowledge of basic mathematics, science, and engineering fundamentals in the area of biotechnology, such as Biochemical engineering, Genetic Engineering, Bioinformatics, Separation Technology etc.
2. Problem Analysis : An ability to find the biotechnology-oriented problems and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
3. Design / Development solution : An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex biotechnology related problems.
5. Modern tool usage: An ability to use the biotech techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for practice as biotechnology professionals.
6. Engineering & Society : Graduates will exhibit the impact of engineering solutions on the biotech society and also inculcate aware of Contemporary issues.
7. Individual and team work : An ability to function individually and in multidisciplinary teams.
8. Environment and sustainability : The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.

1. An ability to apply the knowledge of fermentation technology, food and pharmaceutical biotechnology to solve problems by providing appropriate solutions.
